Video footage of gameplay on the TSWW digital prototype
We will soon have in our hands a professionally produced promotional video for the TSWW Digital Project. This is intended to be seen by prospective publishing house investors but should be of interest to anyone who likes war strategy games.
As a taster, here’s half an hour of footage of a certain Mr. John Bannerman playing the game in real time with commentary. More information about the project can be found at www.tkc-digital.com.

Personally prefer NATO symbols – to use graphical symbols is fine, but would like an option to display unit types conventionally.

Hi Kevin
Thanks for the comment. I personally agree with you that NATO symbology works – and is the defacto standard. I use it in the board games (ships and planes excluded) because of that “at a glance” ease of reading and point blank refuse to use blocks of colour in the symbols because it automatically makes a mess of the presentation to my eyes. I cringe when I see some of the stuff done by my competitors in the board gaming world as the colour clashes quite literally hurt my eyes.
That said, given we want to cross market this towards the main stream (which makes huge sense, consims have always crossed over when done right) we need to make it more accessible to others, and as such putting the ship data, sihouettes etc into the game makes it look nice. As to using items rather than symbols for the ground units, this is probably vital as the primary element for most prospective players. I would however veto any move to delete Nato iconography from the game system as a primary source of symbology as people like you and I would prefer that!
Fortunately UX design is not a major issue – we can do that with the right people on board easily…

Very interesting! I can’t think of another video game that will cover such a large area and in such depth.

Thanks Craig – we basically went for this as our opening gambit years ago – but things conspired against it! I agree that its unique in scope – so we now need to develop it properly and get the thing very slick and cool… That will move it from a niche to a wider audience – and if we do it right it will be good for the consim industry as well.

Having trouble getting it to play- anyone else have a similar issue, and was able to fix it?

Blake I think we sorted this via email… I hope

[…] This article included a high-quality version of John’s gameplay on the TSWW digital prototype with his commentary. The audio on that is very quiet and some people have had issues getting it to play, so here it is uploaded to Youtube which will hopefully make things easier for some. […]
